At the JIMEE meeting, we presented nine cost savings initiatives under consideration for further action. There was no consensus on which ones were the JIMEE Committee's top priority. However, it appeared that modifying CAP rates, backfilling critical positions and using a peer review team during design are near the top of the list.
During our last committee meeting we were able to agree on two cost saving initiatives:
• using an experienced peer review team to examine design documents (plans and specification) in early stages of project development to avoid costly design field changes
• developing a city-wide project delivery manual

On June 13, the Los Angeles City Council voted 14-0 to amend the Foreclosure Registry Ordinance. This amendment will help the city enforce the ordinance that could bring in millions of dollars in revenue for the city by fining banks for the devastation they cause our neighborhoods.
After months of SEIU 721 members hosting and attending dozens of COPE Endorsement Town Halls all over Southern California, and volunteering their time at phone banks, precinct walking and other activities, the California Primary was held Tuesday, June 5.
The Asian Pacific Islander Caucus celebrated Asian Heritage Month on May 19, 2012, at the LA County Federation of Labor board room which was colorfully decorated with flags of different Asian countries.

SEIU 721 and the Coalition of LA City Unions that represent Los Angeles City workers have spent the last three years in partnership with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to help during these tough economic times. Contracts were negotiated in good faith, but now the Mayor has turned his back on those promises and has threatened layoffs, pay and benefit reductions, and privatization of city services. We have presented alternatives to save our city, the Mayor just isn't paying attention.
